This waterfall emerges from behind a natural “window” in the rock wall. Hikers can safely peek at the “window” from a railed overlook. While this hike is less than a mile long, it’s a strenuous path that’s well worth the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the north.

You'll want to pack plenty of food and water before embarking on this journey, as you may be gone for 7-8 hours if you plan to trek the entire thing. This path features stunning lake views, plenty of tree cover, and very few people if you come early. This is a great trail to take younger kids on and there is a picnic area for the family to enjoy a packed lunch.

The vast network is open to equestrians and mountain bikers, making it an especially popular destination. Enhancing the greenway’s popularity even more are a fishing pier, canoe access and a playground. Rankin Lake Park is a community landmark in Gaston County near Charlotte, NC, home to the 1.9-mile Rankin Lake Trail.

H Mart Food Court, Cary Casual Korean and Asian Eats for the Fearless!

h mart cary 1961 high house rd cary nc 27519

It’s all pretty casual and delicious here, a common dining area jammed with diners makes you believe the food here has GOT to be good. While the food court is pretty large at H Mart, the seating/dining area is a bit small and crowded for the number of patrons it handles. At the end of the meal, each food stall has its own waste area and spot to return plates and dinnerware. There are also some vending machines for water and soda if you don’t grab a drink from the stall you order your meal from. Over in the meat area, you’ll find all sorts of pork and beef cuts that would be hard to find anywhere else. Including pre-sliced meats for Asian specialties like hot pots, bulgogi, and galbi.

A large, sliced, pork cutlet/chop is simmered with egg and laid over a bowl of rice. Paired up with some shrimp gyoza and you’ve got yourself an excellent Japanese meal. As you finish up your meal and given the shared communal dining area, any clean-up is appreciated. H Mart suggests self-busing your tray and plate back to the stall you get it from.

The seafood section is wonderful and includes live lobster, giant prawns, and much more. And while I haven’t tried the in-house bakery, Tous Les Jours, they have beautiful cakes and macarons, I’ve heard it’s an excellent option for French-style sweets and cakes. When it comes to food courts, I’m usually not a huge fan but if you enjoy Asian eats, you’ll really like the H Mart out in Cary. This single, Triangle location for a chain of Korean supermarkets has a large Asian food court. From Korean to Japanese, Taiwanese, and Thai I’m pretty sure something here at the H Mart food court will tickle your fancy. But H Mart serves it up sizzling on a thick ceramic platter with banchan (pickled sides) and a nice portion of short grain rice (sticky).

The beef is sauteed ribeye with the sweet tinge from a great soy-sesame-sugar marinade. It’s all a nice contrast from the savory onions and part of why I love this classic Korean dish. I wolf down as much as I can but it’s a lot of food, especially since I snuck in some chicken beforehand.

So overall I was pretty happy with H Mart’s food court but there are definitely some imperfections. They are super skimpy with their napkins and a lot of the food is served in styrofoam, ugh. I’ve found some of these same challenges at the food court at Grand Asia Market but it’s compounded here at H Mart. Take a walk around to see what your food options are, the menus are H Mart’s food court is super diverse. You can get pad thai, drunken noodles, curry, General Tso, udon noodles, donburi, bibimbap, galbi (short ribs), Korean hot dogs just to start. Note that while the food court here is not expensive, it’s not cheap either with most item prices ranging from $8 to $22.

From lou ruo fan to pork belly buns and salt n pepper pork chops, they cover it all and do quite a nice job with their very authentic menu. But even with all those challenges, I’d come back to try out more food and more stalls. Dealing with all these service quirks is the price you pay to get authentic Asian eats here. You’d be best off coming with 2 – 4 people so you can divide and conquer on the food and seating. So thank you H Mart for bringing more options to the Korean and Asian eats table. One newer food kiosk at H Mart is Love Bao which specializes in Taiwanese eats!

See What God Can Do Through You

elevation charlotte nc

See how God can use you to impact the lives of the people around you. Join us for worship and the sermon from this past weekend. Wherever Elevation ends up growing, Corbett said Charlotte will always be the church's hub. Elevation – launched by Furtick, wife Holly and seven families who left a Southern Baptist church in Shelby to start one in Charlotte – probably has another decade of steady growth, Travis said.

Hope Farm

Pastor Steven and Holly live in Charlotte, NC with their two sons, Elijah and Graham, and daughter, Abbey. At churches such as Elevation, Thumma said, the founding pastor's charisma and leadership authority are tied to his record of rapid success. "This often causes the church leadership to try to artificially manufacture the illusion of success." Scott Thumma, one of the country's leading experts on megachurches, said he and colleague Warren Bird have found in their last two national studies that "younger megas" such as Elevation "are growing faster and larger" than big churches did in previous decades. At Elevation, that means more than 75 percent of the worshippers now see Furtick's sermon on a screen, Corbett said. The 35-year-old pastor preaches most weekends from the stage of the church's Blakeney facility in south Charlotte.

Elevation Nights '24

Experts have said this lack of oversight by those who attend the church, and the transparency that usually comes with that, sets Elevation apart from other Southern Baptist churches and even other megachurches. But there are few signs that this has become an issue with most of those who attend Elevation. Elevation's congregation also appears to be more racially diverse than most Charlotte churches. At last count, in 2013, the self-described "Elevators" attending these services were giving the church an average of $484,000 a week.

This is church. Anywhere.

In Roanoke, Va., he said, a group of people watching Elevation videos grew large enough for the church to send some leaders to set up a site. "We now have a building (where) we can add multiple worship experiences," Brey said. "We can do them Saturday night, Sunday morning, Sunday night, Monday night, Tuesday night." CHARLOTTE, NC (Tim Funk/The Charlotte Observer) - In nine years, Charlotte's Elevation Church has grown from the 121 worshippers at its first service to the more than 17,000 who now show up every weekend at its 13 locations. What would happen if we began to believe that God could do the miraculous through us? These are the questions GRAMMY® Award-winning collective Elevation Worship is asking on their latest live recording.

Corbett said the church has already paid $3.8 million for the land – 22 acres off Lancaster Highway and U.S. 521, near the South Carolina line. The building will be equipped with the latest in digital technology, he said, and will become the church's new broadcast location. That means Furtick will usually preach from the stage there. Overall, the magazine also said, Elevation is the country's 15th largest Protestant church – and the youngest church on the "largest" list. Larry Brey, 44, who has been with Elevation since its founding, will be the campus pastor at University City. "We never dreamed of being what we've become," said Elevation Chief Financial Officer Chunks Corbett, who's been at the church since the beginning.

Elevation Church is an Evangelical non-denominational multi-site megachurch based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Elevation has 20 locations.[1] Its senior pastors are Steven Furtick and Holly Furtick. Steven Furtick is a pastor, Grammy-award winning songwriter and producer, & New York Times best-selling author. As founder and lead pastor, he has helped grow the multi-site Elevation Church into a global ministry through online streaming, television, and the music of Elevation Worship. He holds a master of divinity degree from Southern Theological Seminary and is the author of Crash the Chatterbox, Greater, Sun Stand Still, (Un)Qualified, Seven-Mile Miracle.

Elevation Church, led by Pastor Steven Furtick, is based in Charlotte, NC and has multiple locations in the Charlotte area and beyond. Click on a map to view its topography, its elevation and its terrain.

Like other Charlotte megachurches – including St. Matthew Catholic and Forest Hill – Elevation now has a Sunday presence in fast-growing Union County. Since January, it's been holding services at Weddington High School. Having previously worked on an SSL console, Mix soon narrowed down the choice of desk for the new studio. I love how versatile it is and love the hybrid workflow,” he says. SSL’s δelta-Control software layers DAW control and integration onto the console’s traditional analogue path and signal processing. “Utilizing the hybrid side is super fun and very intuitive.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 308.6 square miles (799 km2), of which 306.6 square miles (794 km2) is land and 2.0 square miles (5.2 km2) is water. Charlotte is the twenty-sixth-most expansive city in the United States and lies at an elevation of 751 feet (229 m). Charlotte constitutes most of Mecklenburg County in the Carolina Piedmont. Uptown Charlotte sits atop a long rise between two creeks, Sugar Creek and Irwin Creek, and was built on the gunnies of the St. Catherine's and Rudisill gold mines. Charlotte is 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Concord, 26 miles (41 km) northeast of Rock Hill, South Carolina, 83 miles (144 km) southwest of Greensboro, 135 miles (217 km) west of Fayetteville, and 165 miles (265 km) southwest of Raleigh, the state capitol.

What experts have seen across the country suggest that, around age 10, which Elevation will hit next year, megachurches "begin to feel a little more corporate," Travis said, with more rules, processes and internal controls. Church professionals are often brought in, and church leadership becomes "not just family and friends," said Thumma. Elevation is governed not by a board of church members, but by Furtick and a group of four out-of-town pastors who lead their own megachurches. Some of them, including Perry Noble of 15-year-old NewSpring Church in Anderson, S.C., have been among Furtick's mentors.

elevation charlotte nc

Furtick routinely declines interview requests from the Observer, which last talked to him in 2008. But Corbett, 37, agreed to speak about Elevation's growth. As chief financial officer, he's in charge of the building and spending at what Outreach magazine says is the 11th fastest-growing Protestant church in America. EFam is our online family at Elevation Church, where Pastor Steven Furtick serves as lead pastor in Charlotte, NC. No matter where you call home, being part of our eFam is as simple as joining us online each week. Join us as we reach more people with the gospel through the growth and expansion of our church.

The act’s most recent single, “Same God” — from Elevation Worship’s GRAMMY-nominated album, LION — crowned the top of the radio charts, further solidifying their longevity in the modern worship movement. Plus, like a lot of megachurches, Elevation tries to steer its regulars into small groups that meet and pray in homes. Each site has its own full-time campus pastor, its own live band, and a staff that works with children during the weekend services. And with Easter on the horizon, the evangelical megachurch led by Pastor Steven Furtick is about to open a University City campus that cost nearly $5 million to turn into worship space. It's just the latest piece of an ambitious expansion that involves spending big, building big and even carrying the Elevation franchise to another city, another state and another country. One of those songs was “Trust In God.” Written early on in the Fall of 2022, the track wasn’t feeling right as the recording approached.

So Elevation decided to sign a 10-year lease on a building on IBM Boulevard and spend $4.9 million to turn the 38,000-square-foot site into Elevation worship space, complete with the church's now-ubiquitous orange inverted-V logo. For the past three and a half years, Elevation has been renting the University City YMCA for a Sunday morning service in the gym. But the church has outgrown that space, and wanted a building it could use all week. "Before multisites took hold, churches would have one master-planned campus," Travis said.

Wanting to begin the new year with intention, the group simply circled a date (January 13, 2023) on the calendar and announced a worship night at their church. A month out, they only had a couple songs they really believed would make it and a third contender that needed major work. Unsure how many new offerings they’d be able to craft with the holidays fast approaching, they gathered with Chandler Moore, Brandon Lake, and Pat Barrett, longstanding friends of Elevation Worship to write the week of the recording. What came within days of the recording were the powerful anthems “Praise,” “Make A Way,” and “Been So Good,” which was heard by most of the team and rehearsed for the first time just hours before the night.

DISTRICTS NOT TRANSLATING WITH UDO

The map above is based on the zoning translation table in Article 3 of the UDO (See below). The zoning translation table lays out how each conventional zoning district will translate in the UDO. Articles in the CLT UDO are categorized as “Usage & Development Standards”. This category includes general use regulations, a global use matrix, use definitions, prescribed conditions for principal and temporary uses, and prescribed conditions for accessory uses. Additionally, this category covers accessory structures with general standards for them.

The 2024 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run is a low-waste event with trash collection and recycling at the start line, and trash, recycling, and compost at the finish area. Parks & Rec is partnering with Bennett Compost to offer the compost option. Race participants and spectators should dispose of waste in the appropriate bins provided. Signage and volunteers will guide runners and guests to the correct bin, making it easy for everyone to contribute to a cleaner, greener event. Spectators are welcome to gather along Broad Street to cheer on participants.

Use this map to see if a new zoning district applies to your property. The only zoning that did not change on June 1 were conditional, optional, and exception zoning districts that were previously rezoned with specific rules for development. The zoning designation of a parcel specifies how the land and buildings can be used within the city and county. Zoning districts are created to attract certain types of development such as single-family and multifamily homes, offices, neighborhood business, industry and institutions like schools and hospitals. Examples of zoning violations include illegal signs, illegal use of property, and commercial vehicles in residential areas. Most zoning districts changed on June 1, 2023 as Charlotte’s new development ordinance updated the City’s zoning map.

Appeals, variances, inspections, and enforcement actions are subject to specific articles within this category. The IBX Broad Street Run Health and Wellness Expo, presented by Penn Orthopaedics, kicks off race weekend at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (Hall F) and is open to the public. This is the first year since the pandemic that the run has reached its participation capacity.

Submit Your Rezoning Application

A parking pass is required and must be requested and collected prior to Sunday. The lost child reunification area will be located in the registration tent on the Parade Grounds in the Navy Yard. The runners reunion area will be located in the northwest quadrant of the Parade Grounds near the Kids Dash zone. Participants can park their cars for free in the Sports Complex parking lots (Broad Street and Pattison Avenue) and take the SEPTA Broad Street Line to the start area. Prior to Sunday, “No Parking” signs will be posted at the starting area, along the race course, and in the center median of Broad Street.

A rezoning pre-submittal meeting is required prior to filing a rezoning application. Mitchell and Burgess worry petitions, like the townhome project, that go against the new rules will still be approved by city council. There are 29 rezoning petitions being considered in the Mallard Creek area, including plans for thousands of apartments near Interstate 485. — Charlotte’s new zoning rules take effect in June with the city’s Unified Development Ordinance.

Zoning districts without any special conditions (these are called “conventional” districts) translated to the new UDO zoning districts on June 1. Use this map to see if a new UDO zoning district applies to your property. Depending on the zoning district, the new zoning rules may have changed more in some districts than in others. To familiarize yourself with the new UDO zoning districts, take a look at these zoning districts at-a-glance-worksheets. The adoption of the UDO was a city-wide effort to update the regulations that guide growth and development in Charlotte.

To report a potential violation of the zoning ordinance, call 311 or submit your request online. Land right outside of Mitchell's neighborhood on Mallard Creek Road is zoned for single-family houses. A developer has submitted a rezoning petition to change to build 186 townhomes on the property despite pushback from neighbors.

The UDO establishes new zoning districts applied within the City of Charlotte and its Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ). This page describes the translation of zoning from old zoning districts to the new zoning districts in the UDO. For more on the schedule of UDO drafts and adoption, click here.

Pedestrians can expect delays when trying to cross roads or streets along the race course. Police will allow pedestrian traffic through intersections when possible, depending on the flow of race participants. The subdivision, streets, and other infrastructure articles (Articles 29-34) provide regulations for development activities within the City and its Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ).

The UDO combined eight development ordinances, including the zoning ordinance, into one set of regulations to make them clearer and easier to use. We’ve developed a series of handouts summarizing zoning districts in the UDO. For more details about how old zoning changed to new UDO zoning districts, read more here. If you knew your zoning under the old ordinance, you may see a new name today. The zoning district names in the new ordinance are entirely different from what was used in the old zoning ordinance. The new UDO zoning districts on this map are effective as of June 1, 2023.

The new code, called the UDO, has been in the works for years, based off the city's 2040 Comprehensive Plan. The latest draft of the UDO is scheduled to head to city council on Aug. 22 for final discussions and a vote. Charlotte's Unified Development Ordinance has been a monumental project, bringing in zoning, development and other policies into one massive plan that will guide the Queen City's growth. Neighbor Tim Burgess told WCNC Charlotte he worries more developments with higher-density housing will put stress on the area schools, roads, and emergency services. The new regulations for buildings, infrastructure, and the environment will act as guidelines for how the city will grow over the next 20 years. However, some neighbors worry developers will still get the upper hand.

Use this map to search an address or parcel ID to see previous zoning and the translated UDO zoning district now that the adopted UDO is in effect. This change allows more types of housing but new duplexes and triplexes in existing neighborhoods must respect neighboring houses. The new rules limit duplex and triplex buildings by a sidewall height restriction. This limits duplex and triplex sidewalls to 20 feet or the average sidewall height of their neighbors’ sidewalls if they are more than 20 feet. To understand the difference between a sidewall height and the building height, check out this simple graphic here.

Click on the link above and enter an address or parcel ID to see current zoning and the translated UDO zoning district once the adopted UDO goes into effect. Articles 1-2 of the Charlotte UDO is the Ordinance Introduction. These articles provide an overview of the purpose and scope of the UDO. It includes information on the applicability of the regulations, the state of emergency, and the effective date of the UDO. Additionally, it outlines the rules of construction, abbreviations, and definitions that are used throughout the UDO.

Rep. Mike Rogers, who is running for the Republican nomination for Michigan's open U.S. Rogers and Trump have endorsed each other but Rogers faces a somewhat crowded GOP field that includes former U.S. Rep. Justin Amash, businessman Sandy Pensler and west Michigan physician Sherry O'Donnell. Meanwhile, he repeated false claims that Democrats support rules that allow for infants to be "executed" after birth as well as one suggesting that "most people" wanted to see questions about abortion decided at the state level. While Michigan has guaranteed abortion rights, many more conservative states have enacted far tougher restrictions and there are still efforts to try to get Congress to pass a national ban on abortions beyond a certain week of pregnancy. Portable toilets set up for the crowd included a flyer that read “Election Workers Needed” with a QR code to sign up.

Trump made it to Michigan, and an earlier rally in the day in Wisconsin, under a legal cloud, however. On Thursday, he has another date in a New York City courtroom in a criminal case, facing charges of falsifying business records to conceal a hush money payment ahead of the 2016 election to a porn film actress with whom he was alleged to have had an affair. The hearing will focus on the prosecution's complaints that Trump has continued to violate a gag order the judge in the case imposed on Trump to not discuss people involved in the matter. But he also sounded a pragmatic, more politically attuned note on the subject of abortion, letting supporters know that even if they are in favor of stricter regulations in Michigan or nationwide, they have to look past that divisive issue in order to win. While Trump’s campaign has not provided advance material indicating what topics he plans to address, plenty of details about the rally are set in stone. Other details, meanwhile, are coming into focus as the president navigates a busy schedule that includes a criminal trial in Manhattan and an earlier campaign stop in a neighboring Midwest state.

No details were immediately released about when or where Harris would be in Detroit but the tour comes at a time when President Joe Biden is trying to improve his standing among Black voters ahead of the 2024 election. Polls show him trailing or tied with former President Donald Trump in several swing states, including Michigan, and while he enjoys a wide lead among Black people, it is not as strong as it has been in the past, especially among Black men. The White House early Thursday put out a news release saying Detroit would be the second stop on her Economic Opportunity Tour after visiting Atlanta this week. At the Georgia International Convention Center, according to the New York Times, Harris spoke to some 400 people about how the administration is working to help Black businesses and improve the upward mobility of historically disadvantaged groups. "Plain and simple, Trump is a fraud," Michigan Democratic Party Chairwoman Lavora Barnes said ahead of Trump's visit. "He has lied to Michiganders again and again — on jobs, on abortion and on every other promise he’s made. These visits don’t mask the fact that he has failed Michiganders for years and doesn’t actually care about helping them in the future."
